Overthinking patterns

Overthinking patterns

Overthinking comes from spinning around and around in your thoughts. It can be where you doubt yourself and you wonder whether you said or did the right thing. It can keep you up at night or it can even keep you scrolling mindlessly without consciously realizing why you are scrolling.

3 ideas to help you stop the overthinking:

  1. Be aware of your actions. When you’re aware that you’ve been scrolling on your phone for an extended period of time, find a way to interrupt your pattern. Can you go for a quick walk instead of continuing to scroll? Also consider why you are scrolling. Are you scrolling to numb out the hard feelings or are you bored and just don’t know what else to do? Understanding and getting clarity on your actions can be so helpful to shift your patterns.

  2. Take action - even if it’s imperfect action, take it. Go to that networking event that you’ve been thinking about, send that email to follow up with the recruiter, write that caption that you’ve been thinking about for your Social Media post.

  3. Building your core belief in yourself. Keep working on building your inner confidence. You may always feel like you’ve said the right thing to the hiring manager/recruiter, however, working on building your inner confidence to trust yourself in these situations is helpful. You can’t go back and change the situation and re-hashing what you said over and over can drain your energy. You can rehearse and practice your answers mentally to prepare, so focus your energy on doing better next time.
