Think About The Journey

How can you focus on the journey instead of being fixated on the results?

Focusing on the journey instead of being fixated on the results can be challenging, but it is an important mindset to cultivate.

In a society that’s full of the titles that you get as you rise up the ranks, the money that you get through promotions, and the “packages and benefits” that you receive as you get more senior, there is a lot of focus on the external validation instead of the internal validation.

Here are 5 tips to help you shift your focus to think about the journey:

Set process goals: Instead of focusing solely on the outcome, set goals that focus on the process of achieving your goal. For example, if your goal is to get a promotion, set process goals such as developing new skills or completing a certain number of projects. As you focus on the process of achieving your goal, reflect back and see the growth in your personal journey and see how far you have come.

Celebrate small wins: Celebrate the small successes along the way, rather than only focusing on the big end goal. This can help you stay motivated and keep a positive mindset. When you are aware of your small wins, you will validate yourself internally and build more confidence. Stacking more small wins can help you see how much progress you are making toward becoming a better version of yourself.

Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness can help you stay present and appreciate the journey. When things get overwhelming, it can be challenging to appreciate the journey, so remember to appreciate your unique journey. Take time to reflect on your progress and the experiences you are having along the way.

Embrace learning opportunities: Instead of seeing setbacks or challenges as failures, view them as opportunities to learn and grow. This can help you stay focused on the journey and not get discouraged by temporary setbacks. When you have tried and ‘failed,’ remind yourself that you at least tried. Giving yourself the permission to explore, experience roadblocks and then grow through the challenges.

Find joy in the process: Do your best to find joy in your work and celebrate your progress. This can help you stay motivated and enjoy the journey, rather than being solely focused on the end result.

Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination, and by focusing on the process, you can learn and grow along the way, ultimately leading to greater success and fulfillment.
